James M. Brainerd was born in Gainesville, Wyoming Co., NY in 1842. He is engaged with John Hickey in milling at Gainesville, as proprietor of the custom and flouring and saw mills. In 1865 he married SARAH J. GIBSON, of Michigan, and in 1873 he married DELORD HIGGINS, of Gainesville, NY. He has served the town as collector. His father, Elisha Brainerd,Jr., was born in Madison Co.,NY,in 1801, and came to Gainesville, Wyoming Co.,NY in 1816 with his father, Elisha Brainerd. He was married to Hannah Patterson in 1825, She died in 1838, and during that year Mr. Brainerd married Mary Miller.
