Helen,
I am a direct descendent of William Kennedy Brannon, born 1851 in SC.

He married Emily Caroline White in Spartanburg sometime before 1877. He had 7 children, the oldest of which was my great grandmother, Alice Panola Brannon, born 12-3-1879. Other children were Bert, Ruel, Cull, Clarence, Pearl, & Francis, who died as a young child.

Persuaded by his brother-in-law, Mack Fletcher to sell out the homestead and come west in 1889 in a covered wagon. Alice (Sallie) was 9 years old. They lived awhile in Tipton, Oklahoma then went to Denison, Texas. Later they moved back to Tipton, Oklahoma.
In Denison, WK Brannon ran a sawmill, a blacksmith shop, was a shoemaker and singer and songleader and violinist in church. His wife Emily died when Alice was 14 or 15 and WKB moved back to Tipton to the farm. Alice's children Dorothy and Joe visited every summer.

Emily and Francis are buried in Oakwood Cemetery in Denison and her gravemarker is a big beautiful marble thing. They are buried very close to the road that runs along the front of the cemetery.

My mother is Alice's granddaughter and remembers meeting WKB as a child in the twenties when he came to Houston to visit his daughter and her children. He went back to Tipton and that's the last she knows of him. I'd have to ask her Aunt Dorothy what she knows. It was she who used to visit in the summer.
Please let me know what information you have.
Melinda Hamilton Patrick
