IN KEEPING WITH THE BREAUX FORUM, I AM MERELY REPOSTING HERE AS SOME PERSONS MAY NOT THINK TO CHECK OUT THE OTHER FORUM. Salut Robert, As written in A Breau Genealogy: Descendants of the Pioneer Acadian, Vincent Brault ...... Researchers in France have found a record in the church of St. Clémont, St. Jean de Sauves, department of Vienne, of a Vincent Brault baptized 29 June 1629, the son of René Brault, of Amberre, and Marye Reneaume, of St. Jean de Sauves. The fact that this date accords very closely with that derived from the census record, as well as the fact that St. Jean de Sauves and Amberre are very close to the location of the Seigneury of Aulnay (centered about the villages of Aulnay, La Chaussée and Martaizé) from which colonists for Acadie were recruited, lead to a strong presumption that the two Vincents are indeed the same person. Additional presumption arises from the fact that Vincent’s last son was names René, which is the name of Vincent’s presumed father. Further, the researchers found a second Vincent living with his mother, Marye Reneaume, in the area of St. Jean de Sauves after 1671, but he is referred to as Vincent le jeune (the younger). They say it was a fairly common practice among the French at the time to have an older brother or sister as the godparent of a newborn sibling and to give the infant the same name as the godparent. In this case the older Vincent, who went to Acadie, would have been the godparent to the younger brother, also named Vincent, who remained in France. Now you are saying that 1- a baptism act was found in the parish of St-Jean de Sauves for a Vincent Brault baptized 28 may 1629 by mister Caillebou in France in 1983 2- this Vincent cannot be our ancestor because that same mister Caillebou found, 6 months later, another act in the parish of Coussay a marriage act in 1674 where Vincent Brault with his mother Marie Renaulme are witnesses to his brother Rene's wedding 3- since our Vincent Brault was in Acadia at the time of the 1671 census, we must conclude that this is not the right Vincent Who, then, is SECOND Vincent living with his mother, Marye Reneaume, in the area of St. Jean de Sauves after 1671, referred to as Vincent le jeune (the younger). I am rather confused. Regards, Michele Notify Administrator about this message?
