Quoting from the 1914 History of Boone Co IN by L.M.Crist:
"Dr. [J.F.] BRENDEL was born in Hamilton Co IN, 9 Aug 1853. He was the son of Frderick BRENDEL, who was born in NC and the son of John BRENDEL, a native of Germany from which country he emigrated to America in an early day..."
"...In 1881 he [Dr. J.F] went to Cass Co NE and studied medicine with his brother Dr. B.F. BRENDEL...he established himself in the practice in Boone Co and he and his son [Dr. O.E. BRENDEL] enjoy a large practice maintaining an office at Zionsville..."
