Hi Daniel:

Can you now document this information? I have just recently started on this family and find that the parents everyone is listing in a lot of books is not really true. Can you help me? Thanks, Kathy--chatykathy@verizon.net

There is actually new information on the Brereton family of Virginia. Thanks to the digital collection of the National Archives, a helpful researcher who stubbled across a couple of documents and a researcher I hired in England, we now can identify Thomas and William as sons of Rev. Henry Brereton of Glouceter. Even more interesting, this Henry Brereton may have married William Claiborne's step-cousin, Elizabeth James. I am currently working on this line and anyone interested is welcome to contact me. Though this family was well off, Henry had been removed from his position by the Puritans, so it is interesting his son Thomas intermarried with the Puritan Claibornes in Virginia. Henry Brereton's origins currenly remain a mystery. He attended either (or both) Cambridge and Oxford as his name appears in both records and may have spent some time at the bar before taking orders. I cannot document his parentage and his origins do not seem to be from Gloucester.
