Hi Stan, I am glad to hear from you--we have corresponded in the past. I am still researching my Britton line and discovered important information this summer which allowed me to eliminate one possible candidate for the father of my William Britton who died in Chesterfield Co. VA in 1793. He is definitely not the son of John Britton of Henrico whose three daughters (actually the heir of one of them) inherited his property as coparceners and sold it in 1786. This means that he had no sons, because primogeniture was still the law for intestates in Virginia at this time. Anyhow, sometimes it takes a lot of research to reach even a definitive negative conclusion, but the cumulative effect of those conclusions tends to be significant over time. The problem is that I am running out of known or likely sons for the earliest John Britton in Henrico, who must have been my William's grandfather, and there is no indication of any other Britton family in that area. I have visited your website several times in the past, once rather recently. Have you ever seen the Britton site at WorldFamilies.net? They are trying to get a DNA project started, but so far have only four participants. You might want to post a message there to encourage others to look at your website. Another possibility might be to join forces with them and try to create one big Britton/Bretton genealogy project. The more participants and results we have the more likely we are to attract new members, because everyone knows that the chances of getting a match rise with the numbers of participants. I found this website some time ago on an internet search and was the first to post my pedigree, but I have difficulty with the board, and so do others, and that has been part of the problem. Here is a link to the message board: http://worldfamilies.net/surnames/b/britton/disc.html and to the pedigree page: http://worldfamilies.net/surnames/b/britton/pats.html and the results' page: http://worldfamilies.net/surnames/b/britton/results.html They were (and maybe still are) looking for a moderator. I don't suppose you'd be interested? Lindsey Notify Administrator about this message?
