I found a very sad story in the newspaper about the death of son Harry at http://www.fultonhistory.com/Fulton.html:

New York NY Sun, Monday, Nov 27, 1905 :
HARRY BRITTON'S FUNERAL - Throngs of People Pay Tribute to the Boy Who Died While Defending His Sister. Nyack, Nov 26.- Hundreds of people were unable to gain admittance to the home of Mrs. Myra Britton this afternoon at the funeral of her son Harry, who was murdered last Wednesday by W. H. Jones, a Cuban, while defending his sister. The street in front of the cottage was lined with people on both sides for a distance of a block. A large part of the town's population turned out from 10 AM until 2 PM to view Harry's remains. The boy belonged to Empire Hook and Ladder Company of Upper Nyack, and the entire Nyack tire department turned out at the funeral.
The service was conducted by the Rev Sartell Prentice, pastor of the First Reformed Church, who said, among other things, that there has never been a time when the world would not love him who dies as this boy died, defending his home. The pallbearers were selected from the fire company to which Harry belonged, and he was buried in his fireman's uniform. The interment was in the family plot in Oak Hill Cemetery.

I found another newspaper article which told the whole story. You can find it at http://www.fultonhistory.com/Fulton.html by searching "Harry Britton" in quotes and you will find it labeled "Posse Hunt for the Murderer". There are more articles about it as well. One article states that Harry was murdered and his brother Frank was "probably fatally wounded". I believe Frank was shot a couple of times but managed to survive.

Hope this helps. Annie
