There seems to be a common confusion about the Sara and Elizabeth Brooke sisters, daughters of Robert Brook III and Mary Fauntleroy. A Brooke brother of those sisters, Robert IV ("Robin"), mentioned in his will both sisters Sarah and Elizabeth. George Tucker Brooke says Sarah married Jesse Michaux, and that Elizabeth married ____ Micou. I often see references to a Sarah Elizabeth married to John Micou, or just plain Sara Brooke married to a John Micou. Obviously, this situation needs clarification. I have no idea where George Tucker Brooke got his spousal information from, but it is clear by Robin's will that there were two sisters, Sara and Elizabeth. It is also clear that there were men named John Micou and Jesse Michaux, and also that these names are remarkably similar. However, it seems that there were two distinct men of these names. Outside of George Tucker Brooke, and probably people that relied on his info, I cannot find any confirmation that Sara married a Jesse Michaux. I was able to find a Jesse Michaux married to a Rebecca Cooper, though; and also a Sarah Michaux in 1820 Cumberland Co., where Tucker Brooke says Michaux came from, but the dates don't suggest these Jesse Michauxs are the same man if Sara married a Michaux. Does anyone have any reliable source other than George Tucker Brooke regarding the marriages of these sisters? Notify Administrator about this message?
