Check out the James Brumfield in Shelby Co. KY. He has a son named Joel born abt 1834. This James is the son of Joel Brumfield and Jennie of Jessamine Co. KY.

This will need further research but may be a start. i haven't researched on this family. James married Pernilla Houchins. The William living with him in 1850 is thought to be an uncle.
