Dear Judy,
I don't think there is a connection. My Jacob immigrated to the US in 1850 and I believe by a northern route as he lived for a time in Milwaukee, WI where he was married. The family later moved to New Trier, MN where he died in 1911. The only information I have on his family is that his father's name was Peter Buchmann and his mother was Barbara Kulmaier, both of Germany. They were also of the Catholic faith.
There are so many different spellings of the name as found in census records etc. but my family went by Buchmann until my grandfather dropped one of the n's during WW II.
I'm afraid I have hit a lot of brick walls with this family. Good luck, Polly
