Dear Allan,
I have now heard from a distant relative (3rd or 4th cousin removed... something like that!)It seems that despite my elderly aunt's assurance that the surname was spelt CAMPLIN, it is actually spelt CAMPLING.
Of course it may still be the same family (letters get added or omitted with time)but I won't be sure until I get more information that allows me to dig deeper into the history. So far, no-one recalls the name Christina, so I wonder if she used another name later in life? That would make things even more difficult, wouldn't it?
If you come across any member of your family that once used the surname CAMPLING perhaps you would let me know. Of course I'll reciprocate if I find my family used the CAMPLIN version.
In the meantime, many thanks for you help in the past.
Hilary
