You can find a lot of good family data in the pension records of Afri-Amer. Civil War soldiers. I do research at the National Archives and have seen some pension files for those who served the USC Inf. and many of the files have solid family data with which to trace the tree. Some have parents, siblings, kids, slave owners, plantations where they worked, and some really juicy infor. to prove those old "family stories".
