Does anybody know who these Cannons were?
Lincoln County Kentucky 1820 census--under Thomas Cannon head of household, 8 people, all listed as "Free Colored."
1830 Lincoln Co ,Ky, 2 males 6 females listed under Cannon, A??? Free Colored.
From what I understand of the census-taking of that time, "Free Colored" could mean African-American, Indian, "Mulatto", or tri-racial.
I have also seen in articles and census records that there was a large 'Free Colored" population, and a thriving African-American community, in neighboring
Mercer County, KY in 1840.
