Hi!
William Carlyle Cannon was supposed to have been adopted by Richard Rich, and his name was apparently changed to Rich- apparently believed to have had Nellie Elmer Laha as his mother. Richard was said to have moved the children to Wellfleet, Mass. after Nellie's death.
He was reported to me as being my father's father, and had married a woman named Grace(b. in Canada). They were later divorced(apparently, he was too fond of the bottle, according to what she told me yrs. later). She said he "went back to where he was from", which doesn't tell much.
My father, Willis Thomas Rich, was born June 14,1922 in Boston, and had a sister named Edna.
The entire area concerning my fathers' dad is a fairly gray area, as no one talked about the man. I met him once when I was very young(under 5); all I can recall was that he had a wide-brimmed black hat on, and had come to the front door(which no one did, save salesmen and such).
I thought- perhaps erroneously, that my grandmother had said his name was Thomas, and Dad's middle name was named after him, but people on these boards say my father's dad was Wm. Carlyle Cannon, later Rich.I was very young, so might not have heard correctly, or remembered correctly. They may be right.
Both my parents, as well as most relations are deceased now, and I am trying to piece together the family genealogy for my daughter and grand-daughter. Any and all help would be appreciated. Thanks!
