Looking for information on Thomas V. and Joseph A. Canon. In searching a history of Lafayette Co., MS, I found an article on an organizational meeting to start a Presbyterian church at College Hill, MS that was held on 15 July 1837. Attending were my gggrandfather Alfred Orville Canon of Victoria, Marshall Co., MS and Thomas V. and Mary M. Canon, and Joseph A. Canon. Thomas and Joseph were not Alfred's siblings. Since Alfred's older sister Abigail Eliza Canon Alexander, m. to Cyrus Alexander, and older brother Moses Harvey Moore Canon were in Marshall Co. with Afred and the fact that their father John Canon, Jr. joined them in 1839 wheh his wife Mary Scott "Polly" Moore Canon died, I place Thomas and Joseph there also. Alfred and his family members came from Mecklenburg Co., NC. Marshall Co., was formed from the land in the Chickasaw Cession of 1836 and was heavily advertised (for that day) in the east.
John Canon was born in Scotland in 1736 and he moved south from the Canonsburg, PA (different Canon), first to MD then finally to NC. Moving weith him were younger brothers James and Joseph.
