I have been frustrated in unraveling the facts, rumors and family stories regarding the origination of my ancestor THOMAS CANNON (CANON). It is believed this family was of Scottish origin, born abt. 1755 in Philadelphia or Harford Co., MD. The will of Moses Cannon of Harford County names THOMAS CANNON, however there is no proof he is the father of the THOMAS CANNON, my ancestor. THOMAS' first child MOSES CANNON abt. 1782 in Philadelphia his mother was Rachel Coyle, his brother JOHN CANNON was born abt 1787 in Washington Co., PA. The other siblings Rachel and Ross place of birth is unknown. Since Canonsburg is in Washington Co., PA. I am curious if there is a connection of my ancestor THOMAS CANNON to the settlers of Canonsburg. A family story is that three Canon (Cannon) brothers came to America together from Scotland two settled in a Southern state and the other in Maryland or Pennsylvania. This story is not only in my family as I discovered from previously unknown Cannon descendants the same story. Any proof or suggestions would be appreciated.
