Looked at my Family Treemaker descendancy report for Gilbert Carley & family. I have only one, but it looks like the same one you're speaking of, to me. I don't have this Gilbert's father, either. This particular Gilbert may be the son of Quartus Gilbert Carley, Jr, who was in Jeferson Co., NY with my other family lines and went west. He had a son and daughter born about this time, but I have no names for them. QGC, Jr. died by November 1849 and he was a seaman, apparently. He owned a sloop sailing vessel.
