Derek - My great-grandfather was a Cashell (Patrick)- his father (Patrick) and mother (Rose Beglin) immigrated from County Longford in 1849 and arrived in New York City. Patrick had a brother Thomas and a sister Mary. I don't think they are your immediate family, but could be related. Many Irish immigrated to the US from County Cork (port of Queenstown) so that is where you probably got the county Cork name. I have lot's of information on the Cashell's it is a Norman Origin name and somewhat rare. A Mr. Mark Humphrey (who is in Ireland) says we are all related. The story on the two different spellings is that 2 brothers were fighting and one dropped on l on the name so as not to be associated with the brother he did not get along with. You can e-mail me at mgaray@hvc.rr.com and I'll try to scan the crest to you. Hope this helps - Mary Anne Garay
