I'm looking for information on Patrick Cawley, born about 1857 in Ireland. He emigrated to Wigan, England, at the age of 14. He worked for and lived with Margaret and Matthew Thorpe. He was a laborer, possibly an apprentice to a blacksmith. He married Mary Alice Appleton, born May 18 1861(?) in Wigan. They had three children in Wigan -- Mary Ann, Joseph Patrick, and John Gerald -- then emigrated to the US in 1887 (Patrick) and 1889 (family). Four more children were born in New York -- Gertrude Audrey, Madeleine Marie, Dorothy Veronia-Rita, and Loretta Frances.
Joseph Patrick Cawley was my great grandfather. I'd love to know more about Patrick Cawley's family in Ireland. All I know is that his father was also named Patrick. He had a brother who emigrated to the US before him. He had a sister -- possibly named Honora -- who stayed in Ireland. His father may have come to visit for a year in 1900 or so. He spent summers on the Isle of Man, but I'm not sure if that was when he was living in Ireland or England.
