Hi! I have to do a geography project, and I am tying it in to my genealogical research. I want to know, how were the locations for some of these older cemeteries picked? The ones I am referring to specifically are Oak Hill Cemetery in Lonaconing, Maryland. Definitely up on a hill. It feltlike a precarious trip in our full-sized conversion van, I cannot imagine lugging a casket up that hill via donkey or horse. Also, the cemetery in DeSmet, South Dakota, final resting place of the Ingalls family from "little House on the Prarie" fame. It seemed like it was ridiculously far outside of town.....why so far outside of town?? Don't know if it was determined by who was willing to sell their land, or the topography of the surrounding area, etc....anyone have any ideas?? Huge thanks, Sally in Michigan Notify Administrator about this message?
