Alice Jean Bailey Alice “Pebble” Jean Bailey was born in BraxtonCo to Curtis and Nimmie Tann er Frame. She was the fifth of eight children, four boys and four girls. She was married to Patrick H. Bailey of Poca in November 1948. They had fo ur children, Ralph, Debbie Kay, Randall and Patrick Jr. Alice had nine gra ndchildren, Brian, Tanya, Lanee, Eric, April Dawn, deceased, Neill, Ali, J essica and Alice; and three great grandchildren, Gage, Baylee and Olivi a, with another one due in January. Like a child's kaleidoscope, Alice had many facets and was quiet about t he transitions. She was a mother, a sister, a teacher, a Cub Scout leade r, a mom-maw, an avid reader, a lover of the beach and a loyal friend. Alice graduated with honors from West Virginia State University with a bac helor's degree in education. She taught kindergarten at Rock Branch Elemen tary for the majority of her career. Alice's passion was teaching children . After she retired, she volunteered with Project Literacy and the Retired T eachers Association of PutnamCo. She spent most of her retirement ti me at her place in Long Beach, North Carolina, or in Hometown. She became one of God's angels on Wednesday, October 24, 2007, after a lo ng illness. In Alice's words, “Each day is a blessing.” A tribute to the life of Alice will be 2 p.m. Friday, October 26, at Gaten s-Harding Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Delbert Hawley officiating. Buri al will follow in Haven of Rest Memory Gardens and Crematorium. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
