Box No. 34 Pkg. No. 1225 Will of JOSEPH BISHOP In the name of God amen I Joseph Bishop Senr of Edgefield District and State of South Carolina planter Being very weak in Body but of Sound mind and Disposing Memory thanks be to God Calling to mind the Mortallity of my body and knowing it is appointed for all men once to Die. I do make and Ordain this my Last will and testament. That is to any principally and first of all I give and Recommend My Soul into the hand of God my Almighty into the hands of his Dear Son and Lord and Saviorer Jesus Christ on the account of whose merits Alone I hope and trust for the Remifion of all my Sins. As for my Body I give and Recommend it to the Earth to be buried in a Christian Like and Decent Manner at the Discretion of my Executors herein after named Nothing Doubting But I shall receve the Same Again at the General Resuriction By the Might power of God, -Imprimis, It is my will and I do order that all my Debts and Funeral Charges be Justly paid and Sattisfied and as—Touching Such Wordly goods as it hath pleased Almighty God to blef me with in this Life. I do hereby give and Dispose of and Bequeth in the Following Manner and Form VSZ--- Item 1st. I give and Bequeth unto my Beloved Son Drury Bishop his heirs and afsigns for Ever two Negroes to wit Old Sam and one boy Named Dempsy and my Riding horse Saddle and Bridle together with the bed. I Lie upon and furniture and Stead as it Stands and my Working tools of Every kind and two Cows and Calves. Item 2nd. I Lend to my Dearly Beloved Daughter Lidia Springer during her Natural Life one negroe man named Jack after her Decease he Shall be the Real property of two of her Sons named Drury May and William May to be Devided Between them. Share and Share alike to them and therin Heirs and afsigns for Ever. Item 3rd. I Do Lend to my Dearly Beloved Daughter Winney McMillian During her Natural Life two Negroe boys one named Sam and one named Hampton and after her Decease to be the real property of one of her Daughters names Rufa heirs and afsigns for Ever, - Item 4th. I Give and bequeth to my beloved Son in law Abraham Mayfield the just sum of five Shillings Sterling and unto my beloved Grandaughter Thana Mayfield I give and Bequeth one negroe boy named Jefse to her Heirs and afsigns for Ever. Item 5th. I lend to my Dearly beloved Daughter Phebe Carter during her Natural Life one Negroe woman named Seal Together with her Increase from this day forward iat her decease said Negroe Seal and her increase if any there be Shall be Equally Divided between her son James King and Joseph Bishop son of Dreury Bishop to them theire heirs and afigns for Ever. Item 6th. It is my will that My Old Negroe woman named Venus Shall be free at my Decease and be a slave to Serve no person only at her pleasure. Item 7th. I give and Bequeth the Remaining Partt of part of my Estate Consisting of Some Stock and some Household furniture after my Son Drury Bishop has got his Share of said furniture to two of my Daughters the above Lidia Springer and Phebe Carter to them and their heirs for Ever to be Devided between Share and Share a like not one and not one shilling worth to be Sold by any means of the Said stock and furniture. Item 8th. I do hereby Constitute nominate and appoint my Dearly beloved Son Drury Bishop and the Reverand James McMillian to be the sole Executors of this my last will and Testament and trustees of the same to order and manage my Estate after my decease Lastly I do hereby Revoke and Disannul all former wills and Executorsby me in anywise Made Ratifying and confirming this and no other to be my Last will and Testament in witnef, I Joseph Bishop Senr the Testator of the above will and Testament have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this second Day of November one Thousand Eight hundred and two in the twenty Seventh year of American Independence. Joseph Bishop Signed Sealed published and Declared by the Said Joseph Bishop Sen. as his Last Will and Testament in presence of Us John Wallace Joseph Wallace Odey (X) Bishop South Carolina Edgefield District by John Simkins Esquire Ordinary Personally appeared Before me Odey Bishop who Being Duly Sworn do make Oath and Say she was Present and Saw Joseph Bishop Sign Seal Publish and Deliver the within to be his last will and testament and that the said Joseph Bishop was then of Sound and Disposing mind and memory to the Best of this Deponants knowledge and Belief and that She Saw John Wallace and Joseph Wallace Sign their names as witnefs thereto at the Request of the Testator, at this Same time Qualified Drury Bishop & James McMillian Execurs to the within Given under my Hand at my office the twenty Ninth Day of July 1803 Jn Simkins O.E.D.
