My ancestor, Gilbert Carley lived in Wisconsin from at least 1846-1885. I am trying to put something together with John G Carley: John G Carley was listed in the 1842 census as living in the Eastern Division of Grant County. The townships would have been: Muscoda, Fennimore, Centerville, New Lisbon, Head of Platte, Pleasant Valley, Platteville, Smeltzer's Grove, Jamestown, Fairplay, and Hazel Green. When Gilbert married Julia Peck, it was in Platteville, Wisconsin in 1846. I believe that perhaps Gilbert lived in the household of this John G Carley, and perhaps he was a brother to Gilbert. In referring to the posting by Billye Jackson: My Gilbert named one of his daughters Nancy, and a son he named John. Both names are in this John G Carley's family as per this posting. This John G Carley may have had the middle name of Gilbert. Has anyone found out anything about this John G Carley? What do you think of this? Judy |
