Well, heck, I forgot I'd posted a previous message to Genforum a long time ago. I first queried about C.M. Cockerham, but the more I look at it, it looks like C.W. Cockerham. Oh, I do hope this rings a bell for someone out there. This person might have been born in MS, but the first Cockerham was definitely not born there. The John Fisher I mentioned this in connection to, was supposedly born in North Carolina, but is believed to have gone down to South Carolina and then to Mississippi. I suspect maybe he went through Tennessee, but am not sure. The party that Fisher was with is supposed to have wound up in Alabama but is said to have made it to Mississippi by mistake. I don't know if this first Cockerham in Monroe, Mississippi was part of that party or not. I believe that Fisher went as part of a military expedition or something. This area was Chickasaw territory at the time. Perhaps someone knows of the Cockerham connection in the area. |
