I'll be happy to send you a file, if you'll contact me via direct e-mail. This are probably your folks?: Notes on Moses Cockerham Sr. from Jerry Mower: Moses V. Cockerham born before 1737 in Lunenburg County, VA to John Cockerham, Sr. He migrated to Surry in 1771 with his brother William Cockerham and his nephew David Cockerham, son of his deceased brother John Cockerham, Jr. In 1780 he received a land grant from the State for land on Little Fisher River, east of Round Peak Mountain. During the next 20-25 years, Moses V. Cockerham appears on many deeds. It appears that buying and selling of land was a chief occupation for him. On February 25, 1816, Moses V. Cockerham, Sr. wrote his will leaving his grist mill to his son Moses V., Jr., until his grandson William Anderson Cockerham became 21, he being the son of James Cockerham, deceased. Moses V. Cockerham, Sr. is said to have had seven children, but only three are known They are James Cockerham, Moses V. Cockerham, Jr., and Susanna Auberry. These were mentioned in his will. Also mentioned in hit will was his wife Elizabeth. Moses V. Cockerham, Jr. was born circa 1770 and married Martha -, born ca 1767 They had one son, James Adam, born in 1816 Both Moses V., Jr. and Martha died between 1855 and 1860. James Adam Cockerham married circa 1844 to Nancy Carolina Hood, born ca 1826. They were the parents of Martha F (never married), John Riley (1847-1944) Joseph M. (1849- ), James Adam, Jr. (1851- ) married Jane Luffman, Alexander M. (1860- ), Wiley F. (1863- and Francis Marion Cockerham (1867- It is believed that William Cockerham, was born in 1814, and married Nancy Lowe born in 1820, was the son of Moses V. Cockerham, Jr. This William Cockerham owned mill in this area. He did inherit it, and it was shut down during the Civil War. He went off to the War, and came back. Family tradition states that he was shot in the leg and it had to be amputated. William and Nancy Lowe Cockerham had nine children: Andrew Cockerham (1838-1910) m. (1) Elizabeth Hawks and (2 Betty Moore; Hardin Cockerham (1839- died during Civil War, unmarried; Samuel Cockerham (1840-1927) married Ruth Smith; Sarah Cockerham (1843- ) married Jacob Pruitt; Jackson Cockerham (1846 1893); Sally Cockerham (1848- ); Wile Cockerham (1851-1932) married Belegor Smith; Elizabeth Cockerham (1854-1932 married James Smith; and Lemuel Thomas Cockerham (1858-1900) married (1) Mildred E. Flippin and (2) Almedia Ramey. The second son of Moses V. Cockerham Sr. was James Cockerham. His wife, Elizabeth, and son William Anderson Cockerham migrated to Greene County, Arkansas before William A. became of age. It is this reason that it is believed that the grist mill remained in th hands of Moses V. Cockerham, Jr. James Cockerham had one daughter, Louisa Cockerham. She married John Moore in Strawberry Plain, Tennessee on September 4, 1828. John Moore was born in Surry County on January 22, 1810, believed to be the son of the John Moore on the 1812 Surry County Tax List John Moore, husband of Louisa, died o March 23, 1876 in Hamilton County, Indiana The third known child of Moses V.
