Ivy Cockerham was the son of Thomas Cockerham and Mary Valentine. Ivy's first wife was Elizabeth Petronille "Sevelle" MARTINEZ, b. 30 May 1822 LA - d. May 1850 in East Baton Rouge Par., LA. Her death was recorded on the East Baton Rouge Mortality Schedule for 1850 - Savill Cockerham died May, 1850 of cholera after being ill for four days. Richard Jackson Hill b. 26 Feb 1834 in Livingston Parish. He married Idell Catherine Cockerham about 1861 in Livingston Parish, LA. She was born 18 Sep 1843 in Baton Rouge, EBR Par., LA. She was the daughter if Ivy Cockerham and Elisal Petronille "Seville" Martinas. The sources given for this information: Succession Records D-2 June 1828 St Helena Courthouse, Census 1830, 40, 50, 60, and 1870 of Livingston Parish and Succession paper of John D. Pennington, Jr. and Sara Ligon. Diocese of Baton Rouge Catholic records recorded the birth and baptism of - Elizabeth Petronille Martinez, child of Fernando Martinez and Catherine Ernandes, born 30 May 1822, baptised 9 Jun 1822, sponsors Antoine Ghilfou and Anna Martines at the Church Assumption of Plattenville. The children of Ivy and Seville were: Idella Catherine b. 18 Sep 1842 Fernando Thomas Cockerham b. 23 Dec 1843 and George Cockerham b. abt 1845 per the 1850 census. After Saville's death, Ivy remarried to Eunice Jane VINING 10 Aug 1850 in EBR Par., LA. She is the Jane recorded with Ivy in the 1850 census. Her father Uriah B. Vining sined as bondsman for the marriage license dated Aug. 7, 1850. Eunice Jane was the widow of William Thomas ALBRITTON, and they had a son William V. Albritton who was the second 5 year old in the 1850 census. Eunice Jane Vining Albritton Cockerham had died by 6 Apr 1852 when her father filed probate asking to be named Tutor of William V. Albritton, son of Eunice Jane Vining and William Thomas Albritton. Ivy had sold his property in EBR in Dec. 1851, 'possibly' after the death of Jane. It appears their only child was Eliza b. abt 1851 she was listed in the 1860 and 1870 census and had probably married before the 1880 census. Ivy's third wife was Elizabeth Eunice VINING. She is thought to have been orphaned as an infant or small child. Her birth was recorded in a LEE Bible with no explanation. She is thought to be a grandchild of the brother of Uriah B. Vining, Sr., but Vining researchers don't know which of the sons might have been her father. She was b. 30 Dec 1834, and she was the mother of Sylvester, Simeon Wesley, Mary, Anna, Abigail (one of these last two had the midle name of Eunice and used that name the rest of her life.), James, Martha, William Riley, Ezekial and Florence. I have marriage information for some but not all these children. |
