There were at least 5 suspects as Jack The Ripper. One of the main suspects was American Dr. Francis Tumblety. He was arrested, but escaped and fled back to the U.S., where a series of "Ripper -like" murders were committed. It's also a theory that Prince Albert Victor was Jack, and also the Queen's doctor, Sir William Gull.
