There are several genealogy sites that have William Crockett (b. 1709, New Rochelle, New York, d. 8 June 1770, Gibson, Tennessee) marrying Agnes Ritchie, daughter of Alexander Ritchie and Jane Caldwell. THIS IS INCORRECT! This Agnes Ritchie was born abt. 1726 and obviously could not have been the mother of William Crockett's sons, David (b. abt.1727) and William Crockett, Jr (b. 1730). Unfortunately, several researchers have posted this information, showing Agnes having children with William Crockett (b. 1709) shortly after her own birth! According to other information, this Agnes Ritchie married A DIFFERENT William Crockett, b. abt. 1722, and married him on Jan 7, 1760 in Prince Edward County, Virginia. According to information gathered, both William Crockett and his wife Agnes, according to some accounts, were killed by Indians in abt. 1767-1769 (dates vary according to different sources), and most of their children were bound to Alexander and James Ritchie (brothers of Agnes), until they reached adulthood. William also had an earlier marriage to Mary Baker, who must have died prior to his marriage to Agnes Ritchie in 1760.
