Here are some notes. 1st Samuel [1739, MD-ca 1800, TN] married 1st Jane Steele [1737-1775], then married 2nd Mrs Elizabeth Young, widow of James Young of Sullivan Co, (now) TN. After the death of her husband James Young, Elizabeth had applied for land in trust for her sons on 2 March 1780. This land was about five miles southeast of Bristol, TN, on the South Fork of Holston River. 2nd Joseph Crockett [ca 1758, VA] ("Senior") married Rhoda _____ [Ca 1760, VA]. His brothers were named Robert, John, and Samuel. In 1806, when Joseph Crockett sold land in Wilkes Co, GA wife Rhoda signed with a mark. In 1850, Rhoda was living at age 90 in Robert Crockett's household in DeKalb Co, GA. Joseph is said to have moved to Georgia while a young man. It appears that Joseph named his children after brothers Robert and Samuel as well as for himself. DeKalb County was created in 1822. 3rd Robert Crockett [ca 1812] married Sarah Johnson. 1867, Aug 13: Robert Crockett buys from William Cantrell, both of Haralson Co, lot #206, 202.5 acres, in 6th District of Carroll Co. 1868, July: Robert Crockett of DeKalb Co sells Lot #181, 8th District, to William H Warren. Wit: B J Garrison, S M Noland. Recorded in Haralson Co 4/23/1890. 4th Radford J [ca 1837-1859] hanged for murder of Samuel Landrum near Atlanta; his accomplice was John Cobb, Jr. (Macon Messenger 1818-1865.) Married 14 Feb 1856 Elvina R McCorkle. Col Thomas M Acton in 1858 at Atlanta published and sold 20,000 copies of "Life of Crocket" concerning Radford J Crockett. (There must be at least one copy left somewhere, mustn't there?) Type "Radford" into the "Search this forum:" box, and see a posting from May 16, 1998, message 94 of 3295. It never occurred to me that the James named in these two wills was a son of Radford. 1884, May 26: Robert Crockett's will. Wife Sarah. Daughters Mary Jane Foote, Martha Cantrell, Susan Riggs (children), Sarah Curlee (children), Ann V Riggs. Grandson James Crockett. Exec: James P Griffin. Wit: R M Griffin, J P Griffin, R L Rowe. 1896, Oct: Sarah Crockett will in Haralson Co (A, 115). Daughters Mary Jane Foote, Martha Cantrell, A. V. Riggs. Grandchildren: Virginia Moore, Carrie Spence, Annia Chance, Cornelia Wages, Oscar Riggs, William Riggs, James Crockett. Here's something to check out. There was a Georgian named James Crockett born about 1857 who became a rail road laborer. James left Georgia and was living in Dawson Co, NE, in 1880. He died after fathering four children. His widow, Sarah, went back to Haralson Co, GA. 1877, Dec 27: James Crockett married to Sarah J Webster in GA. My notes are not clear as to whether it was in Carroll or Haralson Co. 1880 Willow Island, Precinct 3, Dawson County, Nebraska Crocket James 23 R R Laborer GA GA GA ------- Sarah J 20 Wife GA GA GA McMullen Neal 32 Grocer Ireland Ireland Ireland Note: Willow Island on today's map is on the north side of I-80, about 40 miles west of Lincoln, NE, and about the same distance east of North Platte. On 1 June 1885, James Crockett was enumerated but the Ancestry image crashed whenever I tried to look at the entry. The enumeration seems to have included James and Sarah J, Henry (ca 1880), and Alice (ca 1885) 1900 Haralson Co, GA Bremen Town, Seventh District, Militia District 813 dwelling/household #282/284 Crockett, Sarah J.
