Are you aware that one Annanias Crockett born sometime ca 1797 and died before 22 Aug 1835 (when his estate was in probate) was one of a number of children including a youngest brother Lewis born ca 1815? The name may have been passed on. Annanias was the son of one John (born 11 August 1763, LW&T proved 24 November 1834) and "Betsy" Crockett John was the son of Joseph Crockett (19 May 1722-LW&T proved 28 April 1806). Joseph was constable of "Tangier Islands" in Accomac County, VA in 1763. In addition to Tangier Island itself, all the little surrounding islands were grouped together as "Tangier Islands". Joseph moved to "Tangier Islands" from Somerset Co, MD, sometime between 1734 and 1763. Joseph was the son of Sampson Crockett, parentage unknown, born sometime ca 1700, died ca 1734. Sampson Crockett's wife was a daughter of John Tyler, possibly Else. Their children were Joseph and Tyler. This is from "A Primer on the Crocketts of the Eastern Shore" researched and compiled by Rebeca F Miller of Princes Anne, MD, and Gail M Walczyk of Coram, NY. I broke down and spent the money for the book. As it is very much under copyright and a source of income, I am being careful not to share more than legitimate scholarship entitles. I did a marathon through the records of Maryland a few years back, but I set the project aside when I realized that some time in Dover at the Delaware Archives and possibly some time in Annapolis at the Maryland Archives would be needed to get any further. That's more of an investment than I can take on out of curiosity. I am pleased but in a way disappointed that other genealogists have basically found what I found. There is no reason to link these descendants of Richard (such as Ben Terrell) to those of Sampson. All best, Don |
