There is no reason to think that the William Crockett who married Agnes Ritchie, 1759 Prince Edward Co Va, is the same as any William Crockett b. 1709, New York. First, no documentary evidence (primary documents as opposed to hearsay) has shown that any William Crockett b. 1709, New York, ever existed. Second, both documentary records of the family of William Crockett who married Agnes Ritchie and DNA evidence prove that William Crockett was of the same family as Joseph and Samuel Crockett who were in Lancaster Co. Pa in early 1730s, in Baltimore Co Md in the late 1730s, and then went to Augusta Co. Va. Children of Joseph, Samuel and William call each other "cousin" in court records. And DNA studies done on descendants of these men show they have a common ancestor. Further, DNA records show that the family of David Crockett is not related to that of Joseph, Samuel and William. To date, no documentary record has been found to establish any relationship between David Crockett (grandfather of Davy) and any other Crockett line and thus far DNA studies have not shown a relationship of David's family to any other family.
