I have been searching for when John came over from Wales and how these 2 possibly met. In the 1900 census it says he immigrated in 1862 and was married that year. Well if thats the case He was married before and had a son in Illinois by the 1970 census about 1862 named William or maybe she got pregnet before marriage. Which I thought was odd because on peoples trees I have run across-he is not listed on their tree. I am thinking John came over before 1862. Which takes me to the 1860 and 1870 census I ran across..

Name: John Richards

John's occupation was a farmhelper and William was listed as a farmer.

Name: William Richards
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1812
Age in 1870: 58
Birthplace: Wales
Home in 1870: Queenstown, Armstrong, Pennsylvania
Race: White
Gender: Male
Value of real estate: View image
Post Office: Bradys Bend
Household Members: Name Age
William Richards 58
Margret Richards 66

William's occupation was listed as a minor. Which in all the census I have traced John down in he was a coal minor. Ok I found William in the 1880 census widowed living with his son Eli who is a farmer in Idaho.

I am strongly thinking these 2 are the parents of John. I think it odd to name your kids Margaret 3 times. And also they had a son first born named William. Plus they have other Richards from Wales like 2-3 houses down from John and Mary that were also coal minors. Although his name was also John?? But 6 years age difference.

On the 1900 census Mary listed have 10 kids and 10 living. I have 2 that died as young children.

I have tried to find William Richards b in 1862 in Illinois (the son of Mary and John) in the census after he left his parents home and I was not satisfied enough to say one of them were definately him.

What I'd like to know are any thoughts on this and what anyone else has come up with researching this John Richards.

Thanks,

Margie
