Hi,

I am a direct descendant of Matthew Dalby of Linton through his son, William Dalby. I have researched the Dalby family starting with William Dalby, but not much before him, except that Richard Dalby, a farmer of Linton, was the father of Matthew Dalby.

Linton is an exclusive village with millionare's homes, several occupied by Leeds United footballers. Unlike in 1800's the village was agricultural with very fertile lands adjacent to River Wharfe. Matthew Dalby was firstly a linen weaver in early 1800's then became a gardener possibly to grow vegetables for the market until his death in 1850's. The Dalbys moved out of Linton in late 1800's, no doubt for a better employment.
