I am searching for an ancestor who was in Sherman's March. My grandmother, Maycel (Welker) Maxwell, had a grandfather or great-grandfather, John Deeds. John spoke with a heavy German accent, was in Shermans' March, and refused to talk about it. I am trying to find out more about this elusive ancestor -- so far it's easier to find my clan Maxwell in the 11th century Scottish highlands, than it is to find this Civil War veteran!
