Beth, I would suggest looking for John Doan of Canboro (Canborough) by checking the land grant records. If he received a crown land grant it would be because of his father's service to the crown. He and all of his siblings may have been entitled to about 200 acres since the "Doan Outlaws" or "Tory Doans" MAY have been outlaws, but many of them CERTAINLY were loyalists. On the other hand, John could have been the GRANDSON of one of the original Doan settlers in Upper Canada, so no crown land grant record would exist. Bob |
