Your message intriques me, as I have recently discovered that I have Felty's in my family line. My great-great-great grandfather was John Felty, who was born in 1821. In the 1900 census, he was apparantly widowed and living with his daughter, Maggie Felty-Gray and her family, on 13th St. in North Philadelphia. Maggie was my great-great grandmother. She was born in 1846, and married Ellis Gray, who died between 1880-1900. Their son, William Henry Gray (1880-1936), was my great-grandfather, and his youngest son, Richard Gray (born 1918), is my grandfather. I'm wondering if my John Felty is the same John Felty in your family, who owned the Pirate's Inn in Philadelphia. Do you have a birth date for him, and any information about his children? Also, do you have any background on the surname, Felty, for the Feltys in Philadelphia? It sounds Irish to me, but I understand that some Feltys were actually German, and the original name was Feltin. Sincerely, Richard Arthur Gray |
