I am interested in trying to piece my mother's family of Fipps from Chadbourn, NC. My grandmother said that her grandfather was Tilman Phipps and that he came from Scotland with 2 brothers. Tilman settled in Chadbourn, NC, another brother settled in the Conway-Loris, SC area and the other brother settled in Florence, SC. She is almost 90 and her mind is fading fast. She cannot remember her grandmother's name and I am trying to get the connection to Scotland correct. I did find John Phipps in the l750 census in Mississippi. He was a carpenter from Scotland and his age was given as being born in l708 but no mention of his wife.
