I received a very informative response from Dr. John Crowley of Valdosta, which I include here: The first Baptist Church in Old Lowndes County was Union, or Burnt Church, constituted 1 october 1825. It was located as present day Lakeland, GA. Its fairly complete minutes are located at the Huxford Genealogical Society in Homerville, GA, and copies are in the State Archives and in The Odom Genealogical Library in Moultrie. Bethany Church was located at the present Hunter Cemetery in Brooks County, just north of Quitman. It was on the farm of Elder Matthew Albritton, and was constituted as an "arm" of Bethel Church in 1829. Its minutes are lost. The Bethel and Bethlehem Minutes are in the Odom Genealogical library, and are fairly complete for the period of your interest. An Old School Baptist resident of the 12th District, pre-1854 might have belonged to Bethel, Bethany, Bethlehem, and perhaps Elam near Grooverville (still extant as a Missionary Baptist Church), or Friendship near Hahira, or St. Paul near Morven, or Pleasant Grove near Troupeville. Elam's minutes may still exist, The minutes of Old Friendship are lost prior to 1854, and all the minutes of St. paul and Old Pleasant Grove are lost. Somewhere in my papers I have a file of the Minutes of the Ochlocknee Association, to which these churches belonged. I will see if I can find a reference to Frederick Watson in them.
