To order Compiled Military Service Records (CMSR) for Confederate soldiers from the National Archives (NARA) in Washington, DC go to http://www.archives.gov/veterans/military-service-records/pre-ww-1-records.html and follow the links. You can either order online or by summitting Form NATF 86 (these forms can be ordered online) to NARA. But, there will be little, or no, information given in these service records that ties a soldier to a specific family. It is rare to find genealogical information in Confederate service records and then only if a family member claimed the possessions and money owed to a deceased soldier. Curiosity question: You state that he said he was born in Carroll County on the pension application. Does he also state the specific unit/s in which he served in the original pension application? |
