I am looking for information on Willie William Wilson who married Viney (possibly Melvina) Crow in 1888 in Gordon County. I believe they were both born in the 1872-1873 time frame. They moved to east Alabama before around 1890. I haven't been able to positively locate either of them in the 1880 census. I know from the 1900 census that both fathers were from TN and both mothers were from Georgia. There is also a good possibility that Willie's grandmother or great grandmother was Cherokee. I know that the area of Gordon was part of the Cherokee nation at one time. I have long heard family legend that there was a female Cherokee ancestor that was burned in a fireplace. If anyone else has heard this one from a Wilson family member I would love to talk to you. |
