I have a George Hovis in Lumpkin County Georgia, and he had raised a family there as well. Wife's name is Martha Mahaley Miers/Myers. His children are Andrew and William Hovis, Sarah, Jeny and Mary Ann "Polly" Hovis. Looking for any information on this family. **NEED INFO Especially on George Hovis, he was 46 years old in a 1860 Lumpkin county census and died not too long after because he is not in the 1870 Hall census with his family nor the revised 1864 civil war census which does not show him there either. Suspicions that George died in the civil war between 1861-1864, but not absolute. Martha Mahaley Hovis is the Head of household in the 1870 HALL census with just her children and is marked as widow. I do not know where she is buried nor do I know when she passed away. William George Hovis lived and died in Bartow County, near Jacks Hill Farm Stilesboro. He raised a family in Bartow county and is buried at Raccoon Creek Baptist Cemetery. His sisters Martha (Hovis) Married a John Henry Brock and Sarah (Hovis) married a Smith. I cannot locate his wife's burial place, Martha "Molly" (Gooch) Hovis, she is not buried with William George Hovis. Any information will be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Sarah M |
