I have a will on a John Gay in NC who married a Marha Elias Harper in the mid 1700. His will shows he had a son named Josiah. Other information obtained from Dortothy Stantan includes: Information on John Gay and his children was provided by Dorothy Stanton of California. Posted on GenForum message 837 of 1018, dated July 14, 2000 In 1810 Nancy & Hardy Hunt “of Lincoln Co TN and Bethany and Jordan Bass “of Wilson Co. TN” sold 62-1/2 acres on Back Swamp. Also in 1810 Mills Gay “of Wilson Co TN sold his 33 1/3 acres adj Mourning Gay, Jordan Gay and Josiah Gay, Rogers and the Back Swamp. (Nash Deed Bk V p203, 320). In 1811, Elizabeth Gay “of Wake Co sold 30-1/3 acres on east side of Mill Swamp “adjoining Jacob Rogers, Jeorda Gay, James Gay, Willis Gay, and Passmore.” Witnesses were Asahel Morris, Elias Gay and Elias Bowden. Jan 11. 1811 James Gay “of Sumter Dist., SC apptd brother Elias Gay of Wake Co as his lawful att’y in the settlement of his father’s estate. In 1825 Jordan Gay appt’d Willis Gay as his att’y to recover a distributive share of this father’s, John Gay, dec. from David Sills. Sills was admin. of John Gay and was guardian to his son Jordan.
