Dear Roy, Thanks for the information, Dorothy and my husband, Gill are cousins and we are trying to estabish the father of John Gay who married Martha. Do we have proof that his wife was Martha Elias Harper, I cannot remember? According to an IGI Record from the Mormon sight, John Gay, birth about 1756, in Nash County, North Carolina, parents Josiah Gay and Martha from file# 2034725. This could be a totally erroneous record but I believe that John Gay's son Josiah was his eldest so it is possible that his father was also Josiah. I'm hoping that someone else may know something about this Josiah. Regarding the will of John Gay, do you have the one he made in 1780 or so? On a recent research trip we found out that Elias Gay said that the will of 1780 was not his father's last will and testament but we have not had time to followup on that. Does anyone have a later will? We also found the abstract of a will for a John Gay in Franklin Co., NC, date 14 MAY 1794, names wife Lucretia, sons, Thomas and James and daughters Fereby, Tabitha and Alice. Witnesses were James and Charles Hammons. Does anyone have any information on this John Gay? In March, 1780 in Franklin Co., John Gay sold land to Thomas Jones, which was a tract of land sold to John Gay by Thomas Gay, this was signed by John and Luvisy Gay, which is probably the John and Lucretia in the will above. In August, 1777 in Bute Co. John Gay bought this land from Thomas Gay. Gill hasn't had the time to send Dorothy this information, (Dorothy are you reading this?). Anyway, thanks Roy and if anyone knows anything at all about these John and Josiah Gays please let us hear from you.
