Hi PJ,

I saw your post, and was compelled to do some sleuthing...it was fun. I'm at a brick wall with my Goddards and so am barking up other's trees to see if I can make any connections, to further my own research.

I found Mia(m)da Miles on the 1910 census for 6th Ward, Tacoma, Pierce County, WA census. I am looking at the image now.

Austin Goddard was a constable in Ophir in 1865, for one year only.

You may want to try researching with both Goddard AND Godard. Those spelling variations flip back and forth, often due to geographical location, or era etc. But from my experience, it's best to use both, to exhaust all the possibilities. And when you get back to 1800 and earlier, add in Goderd, Godart, Gozzard and Gossard into the mix.

'Google books' is a great resource for finding ancestors names in books, but those books are often not available for viewing their entire contents online via Google. However, if you have a library card, the number on it will most likely give you online access to the local library's access to Heritage Quest's databases. And with that access, you can get free views of actual census images, full view of those same books and more, etc. I got a lot of this by using that library resource. Heritage Quest's databases can differ than what Ancestry.com has, due to using differnt transcribers.

After doing this little bit of researching, it just may be your hubby's ancestors are connected to mine. I got some hints at that...

BTW, it would appear that Austin and Albert Goddard could be cousins, and not brothers. I read somewhere that several Goddard cousins came to LaSalle together. Albert always shows up as single, I don't think he married.
