I am researching Edward Teague Harrigan. I have 2 diff pieces of info on his birth. 1- b. abt 1771 in Westminster, Middlesex? 2- b. no date in Cork, Ireland? He was sent to Australia as a convict on the 3rd fleet aboard Salamander, dep Plymouth 27/03/1791, arriv Syd, then continued on to Norfolk Island arriv 04/07/1791. Returned to Aust c.1800. His trial was at Somerset in 1789. Sentenced to 7yrs at Bristol court of quarter sessions for stealing 2 coats. His occupation was Seal Hunter. Teague met Mary Wade, another convict, on Norfolk Island & had 2 children with her - Sarah (born on Norfolk) & Edward (born in Sydney). Apparently he left Mary in Sydney abt 1806 & went on a whaling expedition. I have ticket of leave info advising he was on the crew of the Rosetta in 1817 which left Sydney for Port Dalrymple, Tasmania & he was on a general muster in Port Dalrymple in 1819. There is a belief that he died in Port Dalrymple abt 1825, but this cannot be confirmed. If anyone can help me with info about his life prior to coming to Australia or info about his life/death in Tasmania I would be truly grateful. Thanks Cheryl Clarke |
