DEATH OF MRS. JESS HILL'S FATHER

James Hugh Higdon, 67, a member of the state oil inspector's staff, died Thursday, April 22, at his home in Potwin following a heart attack.

Coming to Kansas from Missouri in 1903, he made his home at Latham until 1905 when he moved to Potwin. Here he served as superintendent of schools until 1907, when he went into the hardware business. In 1912 he was ordained a minister and for eight years was pastor of the Christian church at Potwin. Following an interval in which he operated a farm, he returned to his ministerial duties. He was appointed to a state oil inspector's position in 1929.

Surviving are the widow, Mary E. Higdon, at the home; one son, Phillip, of ElDorado; three daughters, Mrs. Elsie Smith, Potwin, Mrs. Carrie Hill, Coldwater, and Mrs. Mary Frerking, Newton; eight grandchildren, two brothers and four sisters.

Services were held in the Christian church at Potwin at 10 a.m. Saturday and the body was taken to Hutchison where additional services and burial took place.
