I'm not sure if we have a connection or not but some of the names and places are certainly close! I descend from Peter Hollenbeck (1790-1876) who migrated from Otsego Co., NY, through Bradford Co., PA, Linn Co., IA, and finally to Muscatine Co., IA. Peter married Nancy May Barnard, probably in New York. I find them enumerated in the Worcester Township, Otsego Co., NY, censuses through 1860. They are living in Bradford Co., PA, in 1850. Nancy died there in 1862 and, soon after (about 1863), the family removed to Iowa on a farm near Palo, Linn Co., IA. They didn't stay there long and finally settled in Nichols and Pike, Muscatine Co., Ia. Peter had a son, John. I haven't been able to find anything on him so far. He is mentioned in Peter's will written in 1853 and a codicil to the will written in 1869, "my son JOHN Hollenbeck heretofore about two thousand ($2000.00) Dollars for which reason nothing is given him in this Will except the share of the residue as hereinafter stated". It was probated in 1877 in Muscatine Co., IA. Peter and Nancy also had Catherine who married Henry Shafer (they settled in Bradford Co., PA), Jeremiah who married Mary Phoebe French (they settled in Muscatine Co., IA), Mary Ann who married Wesley Evans (I haven't been able to locate them), & Isaac who married Abigail Webb (my direct ancestors who went to Muscatine Co., IA. Do any of these people sound familiar to you? Have you locate another John Hollenbeck in your travels who might fit? He would be from the generation after your John. |
