I believe someone had written to inquire about the source of the marriage between George and Rosanna. I found this years ago in a Book: Central Pennsylvania Marriages, by Dr. Charles A. Fisher, Sellinsgrove, PA (1946): Marriages of PA Soldiers and Patriots of the Revolutionary Period - George Huckleberry m. Rosanna Wise - 11 Apr 1763 - Westmoreland County This book covered several counties. Unfortunately, years ago when I was beginning research, I didn't think to check sources on this item, or I did and there weren't any, but didn't make a note of it. I've learned a bit since then. I do remember I was pretty excited to find that entry. Also, there is a web site covering "Some Pennsylvanians in 1772: Settlers in Fayette, Greene, Washington and Westmoreland Counties. It states - in 1772, and until Westmoreland County was established in 1773, Bedford County encompassed all of southwestern PA. All of the present Fayette County--east of a straight line from the mouth of Redstone to the mouth of Jacob's Creek--consisted of two townships, Springhill and Tyrone. Here, the division line was Redstone Creek, from its mouth to where it was crossed by Burd's Road, and from Burd's Road to Gist's, then Braddock's Road to the Great Crossing. That part of Fayette County, Northwest of Redstone to the mouth of Jacob's Creek, was a part of Rostraver Township. The counties of Greene and Washington, west of Fayette, were evidently included in Springhill. There follows a lengthy list of inhabitans of springhill, of which George Huckleberry is included. I also noted some other familiar names: John Carr, John Carr, Jr., Moses Carr, Adam, James and John Henthorn, John Ally, James Neal - names I've noticed in records also for Jefferson County KY and Clark County, IN. Always interesting to find that records can be found in even more places than we first thought. Not to mention the various possible spellings on this name. |
