My ancestors Vincent Peterson and Polly Peterson (Peterson was her maiden name) were in Caswell County, NC with their children, then arrived in Williamson County, IL about 1850. Are there other families from Caswell County NC in Williamson County, Illinois? I would think at the time of 1850 people travelled in groups, sometimes family groups, when they left one state for another. Below is some information on the Peterson families and their connections in Caswell County NC. Polly Peterson married Vincent Peterson on 19 May 1821 in Caswell County North Carolina, Richmond District. I have no idea if they were cousins or simply shared the same surname. I did see where the witness for the marriage was Noah Page. On 22 March 1819 Elizabeth Lea married Samuel Paul and the witness was Vincent Peterson. I wonder if there is a family connection with Peterson and Lea? On 10 Januar 1820 Susan Peterson married Noah Page, and Benjamin Dameron was the witness. Susannah Peterson married Edward Morton on 3 July 1825 and John Lea was the witness. On 7 March 1825 Blanche Peterson married David Hall and Freeman Hubbard was the witness. My above ancestors Polly and Vincent Peterson did have a daughter (my ancestor as well) by the name of Blancy/Blanche Peterson, and I wonder if the Blance Peterson who married David Hall could be the sibling of either Vincent or Polly Peterson? I have just started researching the Peterson families of Caswell County and really have no other information. It's interesting researching this family, as when 2 ancestors have the same last name, one never knows who belongs with whom at this point. Thank you, Dennis Doughty yidman@aol.com |
