From what checking I have done, the records are scanty to scarce. I did have some help from a party in Shawneetown who found some old county records which indicated Mrs. John Cape asked for funds from the county pauper fund, twice and I have a copy of those records. After that,the children were placed out, which leads me to believe that Lucinda Cape aka Mrs. Jack/John Cape perhaps went to a poor farm. It is a mystery. The children's home records only said that the mother was "ill". |
